The
ever charming and vivacious Shawn L. Brown, known to her clients and
fans as “The Hair Doctor,” insists that true beauty comes from the
inside out and every individual holds the key to looking great and
feeling fabulous! “I was created to teach the world how to love
who they are and how to work with what God gave them.”
Inspired to follow her passion for people, beauty and hair she took a
giant leap of faith and quit her job in marketing to pursue her dream.
While honing her skills in the culturally diverse San Francisco Bay
Area, she discovered a flaw in the industry, one that was causing a
serious problem for the beauty consumer. “It was very early in my career
that I noticed customers and stylists would choose each other based on
their race/ethnicity. As I became more skilled and educated it became
crystal clear to me that hair styles, cuts and chemical choices are only
determined by hair type, texture and density.” It is this type of
insight and passion that has garnered her the name “The Hair Doctor“ and
her affection for people inspired her catch phrase “I am only as good
as you look.”
As
if being a successful hair stylist wasn’t enough, Shawn is a television
personality and producer of her own segments on “Good Day Sacramento”
(CW31), a top rated morning show in a top 20 television market.
She and her salon (Salon Epiphany) were featured on the syndicated Fox
Television show “Ambush Makeover” and she is regularly requested to
write articles for magazines and newspapers. Her story has
been featured in publications like American Salon and she has
contributed technical articles to Sacramento Magazine, Sacramento Bee
and The Sacramento Observer. She is a motivational speaker, a
makeup artist, and a published author. She creates new looks for actors,
actresses and models as well as styling their hair for photo shoots and
runway shows. Her love for people and dedication to her work
compels her to teach classes for licensed hair designers, future hair
professionals and the consumer. As the Director of Technical
Education for Durocher Enterprises (a coaching and consulting company
which specializes in the salon and spa industry) Shawn used her business
savvy to help salon owners realize their dreams of creating a profitable
business.
Shawn’s
ability to connect with the masses comes as a result of her
understanding of people and the challenges of overcoming extraordinary
trials. She showed tremendous courage when seven months after
opening her salon, this wife and mother of two was diagnosed with three
conditions in her brain that all required surgery. As a result of
that process new talents and passions emerged. She created “The
Purpose in the Pain Hair and Fashion Show” to benefit the survivors of
brain injury, disease, and disorders. After the success of “Purpose in
the Pain” she has become widely sought after as a fashion show producer.
Shawn was awarded an Owl (Outstanding Women Leaders) Award for leaders
achieving in spite of seemingly impossible odds by the National
Association of Women Business Owners. She was also nominated for the
L’Oreal “Women of Worth” award in 2007.
